Work Updates

Ugggghhh I'm so miserable right now but the girls and Andy are not at home.. so I guess I shall blog.

Anyway, work has been sort of looking up because Buckhorn hasn't been very busy ever since the holidays ended, ergo more friendly and less insane co-workers. Plus I am now assigned to the cashier whenever there's a need, or like. I hand out samples for passers-by to try to convince them to eat our food. So that also means I don't have to face the drama that is happening in the food line. The grass is actually greener on the other side.

The down side about work now, and it's a huge downer, is that my hours are being cut left right and centre. Gone are the days of 10 hour shifts. Enter the days of 5 hour shifts, 4 days a week, and me literally begging Alfredo to let me stay a while more so I can clock out later. And he's being a doll from all this because he lets me stay even though my hours are done. But like. IT'S NOT ENOUGH

And to add salt to the gaping hole of a wound in my employment life is THIS ECONOMY. IN THIS ECONOMY it's nearly impossible to find another job unless you have considerable work experience in the particular field. Or that they want you to enter into a year-long contract WHICH I CANNOT DO. OH MY GOSH

I am freaking out right now like a teenager who got her first period. Okay maybe not that dramatic. But like. HELLO. NO MONEY. HOW TO BUY iPOD. HOW TO GO NEW YORK. HOW TO GO HAWAII. HAAAALLLPPP

But yeah I like cashiering. It lets me interact with people who actually speak English. And like at least I'm not talking to myself as much.

All this hullabaloo is because I am supposed to work tomorrow as usual but I found out today that my hours got liquid papered off the work schedule. WHAT NONSENSE IS THIS. If they can liquid paper my hours THEN CAN I LIQUID PAPER THEIR HOURS ALSO. Gahhh this is so unfaiirrrr *whines*

Plus it's not like I'm not trying to get another job. I've been submitting resumes like a farmer sowing corn or like an aunty handing out flyers to a manicurist EVERY SINGLE DAY since I realised that I'm in dire need of cash. I've been trying as hard as I can. Maybe I'm not trying hard enough? Should I go stalk the manager of Panda Express and beg him to give me a job or stake out in a Starbucks to get a barista job or like scream at some people in Tokyo Express or Sanraku until they employ me? TELL ME WHAT I CAN DO.

Huhu.

I veli sad can die dot com.

So how is everything back in Malaysia?

California Academy of Sciences

I stayed in front of the laptop since 9ish in the morning until now. I wanted to go buy some facial stuff from Sephora and shop a bit at H&M but like... Nat made me lazy. Meh. So we opted for a Stay At Home day today :D

Hanyways yesterday was not as wasted, cos we went to the California Academy of Science museum at Golden Gate Park with Janis, my coworker at Buckhorn. She's a Philipino Hawaiian inspired by the Harajukuness of Vivi magazines, so like she has a fox tail and pink hair and falsies all. Happening sial.

I am so attracted to her bright pink hair. I will never have the guts to do that! Though before I left for the US there was this running joke amongst the cell (which I started... why oh why do I start things like these) that I want to dye my hair platinum blonde so that when guys see me from the back they will think I'm some hot ang moh girl then when they tap me on the shoulder I will WHIP MY HAIR and bat my eyelashes saying NI HAOOOO

No that is not going to happen. I am wanting to do something to my hair though. It's been the same style for like... so many years already.

Maybe I'll do red.

Digressed. Anyway so like.. the Academy of Science is so-so.. I prefered the Legion of Honor because it's more artsy and there's less people. We so happened went on a day that it was FREE. Damn happy.

And yeah I was wearing the exact same thing I wore to the Legion. I should make this my museum outfit or something. Sorry lah. I don't have enough clothes. Like really.

Nat has an obsession with bears. Or any animals for that matter.

Super artsy shot Janis took with her iPhone. Walao if this is what the iPhone 4 can do then like I WANT ONE.

So after walking around the aquarium and the rainforest exhibit and watching some quite cool show in the Planetarium, we decided to go eat something. But we were at the Golden Gate park so we stopped by at Shakespeare Garden

It's like this smallish garden that is really peaceful. If they had power plugs and a coffee machine then it would be a perfect study area.

Candid shot of me and Nat. Those are the boots I bought from H&M for only $20! :D

And the other day, I can't remember when, we went to meet this guy that Nat met from her English class. We had some drinks in some random bar at North Beach.

He's Brazilian too, and like my hair sucks here. Boo.

Yeah all these pictures are either from Janis or Nat. But not to worry, my new camera's on it's way so I should be having more pictures to upload on Facebook! *jumps around*

Flower Market, Legion of Honor, Fisherman's Wharf

On one of my days off, Sandra asked if I wanted to follow her to the flower market because she had another order for leis (those Hawaiian floral wreath thingies). I am not much of a flower person but I had time before my day starts so I hopped into her car.

Gorgeous indigo flowers I'm somewhat attracted to. I guess the conventional pink and red flowers just don't cut it for me.

At the flower market! Quite a number of the shops were closing because we arrived a bit late.. so it wasn't like the Valentine's Day movie where every nook and cranny housed a bouquet.

Then she brought me to Daiso so I can get some melanine sponges to clean her pots. It's a guilty pleasure of mine to scrub pots, you know, to rub on a tiny stain till it comes of gives me a sense of satisfaction. Sandra will have gleaming pots and pans by the time I leave ;)

And after getting churros (my first ever!) and a Polish hot dog for lunch, I set off to the Legion of Honor at North Beach. Alone. Yeah. Nat and Shen were working so I had to go on my own.

It.

Is.

AMAZING.

It's like the best museum I have gone to so far. I love it! It kinda intimidated me at first, because when I got in, all the museum goers I saw were above the age of, say, 65. Gosh. Even the bus was full of old people. And I think a few of them looked at me with pity as though like "Yerr why this girl no life one, she has to come to an old people's museum alone" BUT WHO CARES I LIKE MAH CANNOT MEH

One of the exhibits that really caught my eye was the Rodin exhibit. If you didn't know, he was the sculptor who did The Thinker, The Kiss, and this piece:

Which I forgot the name of. Apparently the wife of the couple who donated this building is an avid collector of Rodin pieces. Like there's this piece called The Shadow or something is one of the only other piece that is around in the world. The other one is in Paris. So like. Yeah. She is super kao rich yan.

The museum actually didn't allow photography but I saw some Persian-ish girls shamelessly taking pictures so like dahlah if they're not getting caught then must as well I also take pictures kan.

Baboon by Rembrandt, hurriedly taken because there was some fat security bloke looking at me. Yeah. I scurried out of the exhibit soon after this picture was taken. SHAME ON ME.

They had a lot of paintings from the Renaissance era and before. So like it kinda showed how people back then perceived Christianity, or Jesus, and what kind of subject matter they thought important in that time. It used to be religion, then royalty, then like normal yan. (Yan = people in Chinese. Shen uses it a lot and now I use it too -_-) And since they didn't have the Internet or TV to waste their time back then, they had a lot of it to waste on painting a masterpiece. Very awe inspiring. I plan to return one last time next month, because they have a new special exhibit on medieval fashion.

The special exhibit they're having now is Japanesque that displayed the Japanese art of stamping. As in like they carve out some picture of Fuji mountain on a piece of wood, then they put some sort of ink as to how they will want to paint the picture, then they place a piece of cloth over it so it will imprint. And then they will make different variations of the picture. Quite interesting but there was far too many people in the exhibit, and maybe because I'm Asian so I got bored quite quickly. So I zhao lou.

The Thinker. I love the entrance. It felt as though I was in Rome or something hahaha *laughs alone* but I saw three couples taking their wedding pictures over there so I guess I'm not the only one that thinks this place is immensely beautiful.

One of the great things about this place is that it has a really good view of the Golden Gate bridge.

It won't feel like you're in San Francisco until you see this. Then it hits you. WOW. I AM HERE. THIS IS INSANE.

OK Nat's taking a long time showering so I might as well blog about another place.

But anyway, Natalia, Shen and I went to the Fisherman's Wharf around two weeks ago.

Fisherman's wharf is somewhere along the piers. It has super a lot of boats like any other wharf, basically. Haha. I'm not the best person to explain this place.

View of the city. Like seriously, I am a really bad dresser. Trench coat and Converse shoes what was I thinking!

"act cool" shot of the day.

More boats.

Eating clam chowder and fried calamari for an al fresco lunch. Super yummy. I'm going back there again!

Err Shen you are blocking the Pier 39 flag

Huge Christmas tree in front of the shops. But like obviously the person who took this picture is not a professional. Half body shot in front of a giant tree WHAT WAS SHE THINKING

And New Year's was spent at home because I had work the next morning. So we just ate cupcakes and drank tequila and champagne and beer. Not sure if I have already blogged about this hahaha

Recent house updates? Jason left for his home in Korea. So here to take his place is Andreas, otherwise known as Andy from Switzerland. He's hilarious. And tall. It feels different talking up to a person when I'm always talking down, if you get my drift. *clears throat*

OK till next time. It's my turn to take a shower, cos Nat and I are going out to the city today to look for another job since our employer's going to cut our hours as the restaurant is much calmer than it was during the holidays. So like. Not enough money FOL

Other than that I'm feeling terribly homesick as of late, whenever my co-workers ask about my background I sort of tear up because they will be like "Oh, you don't have your parents with you? You came alone? No friends?" :(

Can anybody hear me, it feels like I'm talking to myself

So it's me home alone without the two girls again. Sandra and Gordon are out, Everett (Sandra's son) has just gone out, and Song (the other Korean boy) is soon to follow. So if Courtney and Jackie have also gone out, then I AM HOME ALONE ala Macaulay Culkin woohooo time to slap on some aftershave on my cheeks and scream huahuahua

Work yesterday was fun. The holiday crowd had simmered down and we were all walking around talking and *gasp* laughing. I taught Sandy and Jesus (pronounced Haysoos) some Malay words (sayangku, kacak, gila, terima kasih, selamat pagi) and they taught me some Spanish words. Which I forgot. But if you're pissed off at someone you call them Manioso for guys and Maniosa for girls. Heheh. And when I was handing out food to this tallish Asian guy, Alfredo (the night manager) was like "Leezaaaa he's perfect for youuu!!!" And while I was laughing he added "You should have asked him for his number!" After saying the guy is not really my type he said "Even if you don't want him you should still ask him for his number... for me"

O_o LOL

Then after work I met Nat and Shen and Jason and Jason's friend, Sun, for dinner. Jason wanted us to meet Sun because she was, get this, MAJORING IN INDONESIAN/MALAYSIAN LANGUAGE. What nonsense. I asked her why, and she said it was because some Indons and Malaysians came into her life and left a huge impact, so she wanted to teach Koreans about Malay culture. Wow. The Malaysian Government will give her a Datukship for that man.

Anyway, dinner consisted of bul go ki and bi bim bap and kimchi soup and other... forgettable Korean food names. Yums.

Okay. Time to go eat some lunch now.
